How to Establish Basic Gender- and Age-Targeting Campaigns
Summary
This guide shows you, step by step, how to set up a baseline “always-on” campaign and two simple demographic campaigns—one for men aged 25–45 and one for women aged 30–50—using the Full-screen static template. You will also learn how to arrange campaign priority in the Schedule so that the player automatically falls back to the base campaign whenever no matching audience is detected.
1 Overview
Digital-signage players evaluate campaigns in priority order.
-
Targeted campaigns are evaluated first. They play only when the on-device sensor detects a person who matches the selected gender/age filters.
-
A base campaign is evaluated last. It plays whenever no one triggers a targeted campaign, ensuring the screen is never blank.
In this walkthrough you will create:
Campaign | Targeting | Purpose |
---|---|---|
Base Campaign | None (always plays) | Fills the screen when no one is detected |
Men 25-45 | Male, age 25–45 | Shows content to matching males |
Women 30-50 | Female, age 30–50 | Shows content to matching females |
2 Create the Base Campaign
-
Navigate to Campaigns ▸ + Campaign ▸ From a template.
-
In the template gallery, select Template ▸ Full-screen static.
-
Click the template. The template moves to My templates; select it again to start the five-step campaign wizard.
-
Step 2 – Target the campaign: Disable this option. The base campaign must run unconditionally.
-
Complete the remaining steps (see Campaigns – Displayforce for details) and name the campaign Base Campaign.
-
Run the campaign.
3 Create the Targeted Campaigns
Repeat these steps twice—once for men and once for women.
-
Create another Full-screen static campaign (Steps 1 to 3 above).
-
Step 2 – Target the campaign:
-
-
Audience type: Gender & Age
-
Gender / Age range:
-
Men 25-45 campaign: Male, 25–45
-
Women 30-50 campaign: Female, 30–50
-
-
-
Finish the wizard and name each campaign accordingly:
-
Men 25-45
-
Women 30-50
-
-
Run each campaign.
4 Arrange Campaign Priority in the Schedule
-
Open Schedule. Campaigns are executed from top to bottom—higher rows have higher priority.
-
Drag and drop the campaigns so that they appear in this order:
-
Women 30-50 (highest priority)
-
Men 25-45
-
Base Campaign (lowest priority)
-
How the Player Chooses What to Show
In this case, the Female campaign has the highest priority, so the player will attempt to display it on the device. However, because this campaign also includes targeting criteria, if no woman aged 30–50 appears in front of the sensor, it won’t be shown and the player will move to the next campaign.
Next, the player will attempt to display the Men campaign, but if no man is detected, this campaign also won’t activate.
Finally, the Base campaign can be activated unconditionally and will be shown if none of the higher-priority campaigns apply.
When a person appears in front of the sensor—say, a man—the Men campaign will activate because it takes precedence over the Base campaign. If a man and a woman are detected simultaneously, the Female campaign will display, since it has the highest priority. To change this behavior, simply reorder the campaigns.
Scenario | Detected audience | Resulting campaign |
---|---|---|
No one in front of the sensor | None | Base Campaign |
Only a man aged 32 | Male 25–45 | Men 25-45 |
Only a woman aged 42 | Female 30–50 | Women 30-50 |
Man 32 + Woman 42 simultaneously | Both match | Women 30-50 (higher priority) |
Tip: Never place the Base Campaign at the top; it would override every targeted campaign.
