System requirements for DISPL Player

Below are the recommended requirements for running DISPL Player. In some cases, older or less capable platforms may function but are not recommended. For high-performance usage—especially Visitor’s Insights (face analytics) or multi-layer content—please aim for or exceed these specs.

1. Windows

Supported & Recommended

• Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise (LTSB/LTSC)
  • Offers stable, controllable updates suitable for digital signage.

Also Supported (Legacy, Not Recommended)

• Windows 7, 8, 8.1
  • DISPL Player still runs on these older systems for customers who already have them, but these OS versions are no longer officially sold or updated.
• Windows 10/11 non IoT Enterprise editions (Home, Pro, etc)
  • We supported them but describe why it shouldn't be used in production.

Hardware Specifications

• CPU: Intel Core i5 (8th Gen or higher) with AVX support (required for face analytics)
• RAM: 8 GB (16 GB recommended for complex/analytics-heavy scenarios)
• Storage: 128 GB SSD or larger; keep at least 32 GB free (subject to content volume)

2. macOS

Recommended Version

• macOS 13.6 or later

• CPU: Intel-based Mac or Apple Silicon
• RAM: 8 GB or more
• Storage: 128 GB SSD (≥32 GB free recommended)

3. Linux

Recommended Distribution

• Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (or similar modern 64-bit distro)

• Architecture: x86_64 (AVX support required for face analytics)
• CPU: Intel Core i5 (8th Gen+)
• RAM: 8 GB (16 GB recommended)
• Storage: 128 GB SSD or larger (≥32 GB free)

4. Android

Supported & Recommended Versions

• Recommended: Android 11
• Minimum: Android 5.0

Recommended Architecture

• armv8 (64-bit)

• armv7 and x86_64 architectures (may work but can have performance constraints)

• CPU: Cortex-A53 (~2 GHz Octa-core) or better (armv8)
• RAM: 4 GB
• Storage: From 32 GB with at least 8 GB free (depends on content volume)

Permissions

• Root / Device Owner Mode: Needed for remote management, overlay permissions, kiosk/lockdown features.
• Camera Access: Required for face analytics.

5. Tizen (Samsung Commercial Panels)

• Recommended Version: Tizen 4 (SSSP6)
• Minimum Version: Tizen 2.4 (SSSP4)
  • F/H/N Series, etc., typically labeled as SSSP4+

6. WebOS (LG Commercial Displays)

• Recommended Version: webOS 6
• Minimum Version: webOS 3.2
  
  • Only B2B (Commercial) LG panels are supported. Consumer smart TVs and hotel TVs are not supported.

7. iOS

• Minimum: iOS 12 or later
  • Any iPhone/iPad that runs iOS 12+ is supported.
• Face analytics rely on the built-in camera (front or rear).

8. Additional Requirements

8.1 AVX Instruction Set

• Needed on Windows and Linux if you plan to use Visitor’s Insights (face analytics). Without AVX, basic content playback works, but face detection is disabled.

8.2 Internet Connection

• A stable network (~2 Mbps or higher) is advised for real-time Visitor’s Insights data uploads, remote commands, and content syncing.

8.3 Administrative Privileges

• Windows: Run with administrator rights for certain system-level operations.
• Android: Device owner or root rights for kiosk and full control remote features.
• macOS/Linux: Elevated permissions may be necessary for some advanced tasks.

Summary

• Windows:

  • Windows 10/11 IoT Enterprise (LTSB/LTSC) is strongly recommended for stable digital signage and fewer forced updates.
  • Legacy OS (Windows 7, 8, 8.1) and non-IoT editions of Windows 10/11 are supported but not advised in production environments (they update uncontrollably and can disrupt signage).

• macOS 13.6+, Ubuntu 20.04+ on x86_64 (with AVX), and Android (11 recommended, min 5.0) on armv8 provide reliable performance when following the respective CPU, RAM, and storage guidelines.

• Tizen commercial panels should ideally use Tizen 4 (SSSP6) or newer. Minimum is Tizen 2.4 (SSSP4+). Older Tizen may have performance/OS limitations.

• webOS requires at least webOS 3.2, with webOS 6 recommended. Only LG B2B (Commercial) displays are supported, not consumer or hotel TVs.

• iOS: Any iPhone/iPad running iOS 12+ can be used, with the device’s built-in camera enabling face analytics.

• AVX instructions are necessary for face analytics on Windows and Linux. A stable internet connection (~2 Mbps) is advised for remote commands, content updates, and Visitor’s Insights data uploads.

• Administrative / Elevated Permissions may be needed to utilize kiosk modes, overlay functions, and certain system-level operations across different operating systems.
