In May of 2018 the European Commission implemented the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) to protect the privacy of individuals in the European Union (EU). This regulation applied to any organization providing products and services to EU residents regardless of where a company is located around the world.

Companies looking to do business in the EU need to be prepared to protect customer data regardless of where it resides — on premise, in the cloud, and on employee devices.
